Gurbani Explorer ("we", "us") is a volunteer, non-commercial seva project that helps people explore Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji through search, conversation, daily Hukamnama, and live audio shabad recognition. We respect your privacy and collect as little as possible.
What we collect
- Nothing required to use the app. You can search, read, and listen without an account or signup.
- Email address — only if you choose to send it via our optional “Stay in Touch” form. Used solely to reply to you.
- Microphone audio — only while you actively run a live audio scan. Audio is captured in short segments and sent to our servers to recognize the shabad being sung; it is processed to provide recognition and is not stored afterward. We do not record continuously, and the microphone is used only while you start a scan.
- Chat messages you type are sent to our servers (and our AI providers, below) to generate a response. Messages are processed to answer you and are not retained beyond what’s needed to provide that response.
- Basic technical/operational data (e.g. approximate region, short-lived request logs) used to operate, secure, and keep the service reliable. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies, and we do not run analytics trackers.
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell, rent, or share your email or personal data for marketing.
- We do not show ads or use ad-tech tracking.
- We do not build advertising profiles about you.
Trusted service providers
To run the service we rely on a small number of established third-party providers for cloud hosting and storage, speech-to-text processing (for live audio recognition), and AI language models (for the chat feature). They process your data only to deliver the feature you requested, under their own terms and confidentiality obligations — we do not sell or share your data for marketing. Some web fonts may be served by a third-party provider, which may receive your IP address as part of delivering them.
Your choices
- Emails you send via the form are kept until you ask us to delete them.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access or delete personal data you’ve sent us. To make a request, email hello@gurbaniexplorer.org.
Children
Gurbani Explorer is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date will change. Material changes will be noted on this page.
